30 September

My sweet Yvette,

I have received a lovely letter from you that fills me with joy and confidence for the future. Thank you, darling for all you do for me. I can say nothing more to you… You write me in your letter of your project of returning to France. Here is what I have to say to you about that:

On the matter of sending a telegram to Manka asking her for money, be sure that you can do it. My sister is my best friend and unless she has problems (administrative, not financial!) she will not refuse to help us. For my part, I will see if it possible to cable her independently of you. In any case, I will write her a letter today about it.  Besides that I would like to know, Yvette, how much money we are talking about, more or less. For I, too, will be able to contribute to this effort.  So little one, among friends eh, don’t be embarrassed to write to me straight away what sum you need. (I can for example ask for an advance on my pay, which will be granted without trouble.)

Finally I want to suggest something to you: borrow money on account of your monthly payments. (For example, ask the Pay Office to put your money in a bank in your name, and then sign over to the person who is willing to advance you a certain sum.) Whatever you decide, don’t forget before you leave to fix up with the Pay Office the matter of your monthly payments (that you receive from me). In the future that can be very useful to have a something in an account somewhere. Now you are no doubt astonished that I talk of the technicalities of your project without giving you my opinion of the project itself. Well, darling k that’s because I approve with all my heart of your attempts. I would have been very happy to know that you had returned to the house, to regain Helen’s warmth, to regain France, liberated France, where there is still so much to do for its complete liberation, for the liberation of the people. And all that wonderful future for Ouri, who will grow up in the Fafa, the family. You see that everything is in favour of your project, without speaking yet of what will happen in France, that’s for me a great problem resolved. You understand, no doubt-

But (and it’s the only “but”) don’t do anything hastily. You should first judge well the legal side of the question and be conscious of the consequences. In any case, good luck, darling!
