16 September

Yvette, my darling,

A whole week has passed without me being able to write you a few words. However, as usual, this time I was also close to you. As always…Apart from my love for you, what can I tell you?  Three out of five of my political letters haven’t arrived and I can tell you nothing that you don’t know…. I received your letter after the liberation of Paris. (Manka’s gesture is very touching. She is really a remarkable woman. And I remember the telegram that she sent to her brother that she loves, when she learnt that he was on the front in Spain. It is evident that she likes you, and I am happy that you like her.)  But after the liberation of Paris I was stupefied for a very long time. I tried to write to you, but in vain. I remember that I wrote to you just on the eve of the liberation and in it underlined the human factor- the French people. And it is they who liberated your capital. It’s a fact. An event of incalculable historic importance. I have always had confidence in the revolutionary spirit of the French people. And the mass executions of the collaborators, that is of the French fascists that the provisional government has carried out, only bears witness to the marvellous awakening of the people and their patriotic and revolutionary spirit which will not tolerate any half measures.

At last the war approaches its end and we will see that it ends with the total victory of the people. You also talk about my return. France or Palestine. My darling, I am thinking about it a lot. But the financial aspect of this problem limits my thoughts and my will. There is much to think about and discuss, but lets leave that for another letter….
