Letter 1944.7 – 16 February

Henri (650 Gen Tpt Coy) to Yvette.

650 Gen Tpt Coy

16 February,

Her last letters impregnated with profound sadness.  Effect on him bodily. He takes it in. Difficulty of adaptation. All this liberty. Doesn’t know what to do with it. Bizarre thoughts enter your head.

I have experienced it all.  “ I had no attachment, no home, no wife, no child. No trade. An enormous hideous city. A country quite strange. A people with a peculiar mentality. Do you remember, Darling, my days in London? We spoke of it a little, remember? It was one of those stages, which mark the life of a man. One of those stages which formed me. I suffered inevitable torture of mind and body. Oh yes, it was hard.” But you have Ouri. It’s enormous.  And I love you. As no one has been loved.  Financial questions. Have you received my allocation?  Ive asked for an increase in your allocation.  How much longer do you have to live with Mme Gorochow? I’m on guard and will have to leave in a few minutes.
