Letter 1944.23 – 21 May

May 21

I am happy today because I have received a letter from you. Dated the 11th….. You write that you have not received any letters from me for three weeks. My happiness is lessened…I wrote a long letter on the 2nd May including almost the whole of the little speech I made in front of a group of friends on the May Day celebrations. Then I sent you 5 pounds and separately, the same day, a letter. Then airmail letter (airletter) then another and then the anxious one. I hope you have received already all of them If not, how you must be suffering. So I must send this one off straight away. It will be therefore short and will please the Gentlemen Censors.

I have had recently the occasion to see and speak with many German prisoners (don’t draw the conclusion that I took part in the last operations) and I would have liked to share it with you, it would have interested you, but, no go! I must get this letter off to you.

I have written to Bruno (I received his letter). I am very pleased that you find him interesting. According to the photo, he has not changed. As for me, our collaboration in Spain was not always very happy. We had different tasks to fill whose success depended on our collaboration and that went wrong.  Mistakes? Yes, for sure. And on both sides, without doubt. Still I am happy that you like him and that he is a good friend and comrade. All those who were in Spain have something rich about them. Rich, good and intelligent. And all of them are my best comrades and friends. In spite of the faults. About yesterday’s photo, I noticed that Dov has become rather fat. Clara is as ever, stunning.  You are thinner, darling…The war will finish. More quickly than we believe. And then, little one, life is ours!
