Yvette to Henri.
Paris 24th September
You were right to warn me, darling that you would not write very often. But I don’t know if you are right to be so un-talkative! I would prefer to receive more letters! I pine and I wait so impatiently for the arrival of my Henri! [Same old thing] I had an examination today to check that all is going well with the baby. And everything is fine, very fine actually. Do you remember the night when I said I felt in my heart the child that had entered into me? It was my third night in Warsaw. The 17th August. I see your face again, overwhelmed with joy. [Arms etc] The same friend who found me the apartment has asked me to wait two days; she has seen one with three rooms at Champs du Mars. I can’t tell you anything about that. And it’s still not sure. If it does, it will cost another 300. I will find the difference and I think you will be able to return it when you arrive. It would be a miracle, Champs du Mars. But we won’t count too much on miracles. I have now received (22nd September) the second parcel from your brother. I have spent 15,000 Fr since I arrived in Paris out of which I paid back 5000 in debts. Aline welcomed me very kindly but her financial situation is not good and I felt obliged to help with the expenses. And – an admission- I bought some stockings! If you could see the Paris shops you would be blown away. There are so many beautiful things! And at very affordable prices. But I don’t want to spend stupidly, so I’m not looking at shop windows anymore. But don’t buy anything in Warsaw. Everything here is much cheaper and more beautiful. Shoes, clothing, linen, leather etc. So don’t worry about anything.
Seeing that I am waiting I spent the afternoon in the cinema, after strolling alone along the Champs Elysees and I thought thinking only that in two weeks we would be walking arm in arm in the Paris we have so often dreamed about. That will be so pleasant, with Zouzou jumping around us. Oh darling, come quickly. What have you decided about the Sciences Po? I will go tomorrow morning and buy Malet and Isaac’s manual and that of Gallimard and send them to you by plane. I am a fool not to have thought of that before. But you might still receive them before leaving and refresh your memory in the train, if you come soon enough to sit for the exam.
Can you feel, darling, how I waiting for you? [Part again? Never never. Love, etc}
Your wife
How is Julek? Give my regards to everyone: Aron, Mariska, Jusik, Kawa, Shava etc. Do you have the Radio? I’ve just received a letter from Dido who is in London and thinks of coming soon to France. I would like very much to see her.
