Letter 1947.40 – 21 July

Yvette to Henri.

21 July

This is the third letter I have written you today, my love. Are you going to be a true economical Frenchman and tell me that I should have been able to put them all in the same envelope? […] This morning I put a little note in the French post to tell you of my agreement. This afternoon I wrote you a letter on horrid little paper because I had so much need of you, darling. And now it is night. I am back in the house straight after dinner, rather tired. And I was already in the bath when they called me to say that a telegram had just arrived. And the chambermaid slid it under the door.  Again you ask me if I really want to come to Poland. Yes, darling. I am coming. [….] I will leave around the 12 August if all the formalities are settled.  I can’t come sooner because of the money. It’s rotten but that’s how it is. So, three weeks from now we will see each other. [More sensuous writing…]
